Explanations and Updates

I've been asked about the picture of the truck.  The truck had jack knifed and those vehicles going around him slowed up.  Well, our car didn't do "slow" and 1/2 way up the hill it didn't have any more "I think I can" in it.  That's when Peter asked us to walk.  He backed down the hill, got a good fast start.  It was a funny experience.  I'm thankful that it wasn't a long journey though.  You can laugh about "some" things for a while that don't stay funny for long.  Know what I mean?
Today I planned all morning, "How can I teach these students to outline?"  After 3 hours this afternoon, I still wasn't sure  I'd figured it out.  But they were good sports.  At 6 P.M. when I let out class, several came to me with their specific issues.  I told them,  "There's nothing you can say to persuade me right now to stay."  It was said in jest, as we'd been working so hard on understanding the difference between persuasive speeches and informative ones.
Changing the subject---- I'm still into food, but it's not stressful any more.  I've accepted the limitations, and I've begun to embrace the opportunity to cook creatively with what I have to work with.  I'm no longer trying to teach Jamaima how to prepare what I like.  I just can't take on one more teaching assignment.  My housemates and I decided tonight that we're going to eat together tomorrow night.  One of the girls is a vegetarian, and sure enough, I bought TOFU in Monrovia.  Hannah will prepare that;  Jamaima will cut up the pineapple, prepare the rice, cut the green peppers etc and I'll put it all together.  We haven't given Stephanie a job yet, but I'm sure she'll get one.  (She just passed through, and we laughed about her not having a job/ right now, she's got to set the table. ha!)
Oh yeah  I didn't get to talk to Barry last night.  The GIGANTIC storm we had here affected Skype's signal.  I hope he's reading the blog!
I'm thankful to ya'll who let me know when you read this.  It keeps me going to know there are friends at home who care.

  1. Dinner sounds good! I had 12 extra 17 year old boys all weekend and now I have 7 extra college girls plus our normal 7...(thank goodness the boys went home!)so lots of cooking around here...I thought several times today to be thankful for the relative ease of preparing meals in the states in our modern kitchens with great access to many ingredients....life is so different in so many other places. Praying for you....you also reminded me not to complain about 3.50 gasoline to fill up my very comfy vehicle! love you,k
