Making Friends! |
Yesterday, I walked out the gate just to look around. One of the first sights that greeted me was two boys carrying a wheel barrow of branches. I approached them with my camera, asking if I could take their picture. The older one asked me why. As we chatted, I found out that he has finished high school in Guinea and has come across into Liberia (only about a mile to the border) so that he could practice his English. The little one is his 7 year old brother who goes to school here. It was about 1:45 and school was already out for the day. He told me too that they were hauling the wood to turn it into charcoal to sell. Here's the picture they let me take.

As the boys went on about their work |
After this encounter, I took a picture of a high school. (Later I'll tell about the changes they've made to it since the war.) Then I took pictures of the houses dotted around the school. A group of young people watching me, spoke,"Hey, take our picture."
Sensing the opportunity to make more friends, I went over to them. In the next post, I'll show pictures of that interaction.....wishing I had the capabilities here to show the videoing I took of the children playing with an old bike tire.
