I've been waiting a long time to greet you from Liberia. It's taken a month to schedule the trip to visit the Betty Jonah Orphanage in Yekepa, Liberia, but oh was it worth the wait. I'll probably have to write several posts to get in all the pictures and stories that I want to share with all of you. I can't wait to come visit you when I return and show you all the REST of the pictures. These children learned "The Greeting Song" that you began to learn, and they are working on letters for me to bring back to you! Some of the children even wrote theirs and gave them to me before I left today.
We didn't have enough letters for all the children. There were over 50 of them, but Mrs. Jonah said it was OK. We gave them first to the 7 and 8 year olds, then the 6 year olds, then those who were 9 and 10. We let the 12 year olds read a few of them.
In this picture I am showing them the FPDS second grade pictures. They all knew Sarah's name! Joyce got Sarah's letter.
Children wanted to know if their letter was from a boy or girl. |
I remember reading JD's name, Hannah's, Ellie's. I have one that reads "to any friend" from Comfort. Another one says, "To my friend in Christ, Chandler"
Nanzoe wrote to Mother Val Vickery or Mother Val Honey"
Val, Will try AGAIN to leave a comment. SO interesting to read about all that you're doing and seeing. Praying for God's grace, strength, and good rest for you. Being away from home isn't easy, esp. for so long...but sounds like God is using you in GREAT ways, so we praise Him for that. Blessings abundant on you, dear sister!

val, I love this post. I think of the day you went to FPDS to talk to Sarah's class and plan for this meeting in Africa. It met all expectations from what you are posting. Love seeing your pix as well.
