Tuesday in Chapel, a group of students presented a slide show and gave testimonies of a mission trip they had recently taken to a border town full of refugees from Ivory Coast. Yes, this is the next door neighboring country that's in the news because the violence there seems to be escalating. How they need our prayers!
For 14 years many, many Liberians sought refuge among them. They learned French, new customs and a way to provide for their families, and now, they are reaching out. They're going back; they are sharing the good news that Jesus cares. Their knowledge of the language that they have today because of the long war in tLiberia has provided them with a platform in which they can walk among the refugees from Ivory Coast now seeking help themselves.
So, I guess I'm seeing that lack of such hardship in my own life has allowed me to have unbroken years of quality education, both formally and informally, while the hardships of many Christians in Liberia havegiven them a heart to minister to those less fortunate than they. And now that education is again a possibility in Liberia, they are working hard to secure it! Pray that God would bring fruit to their efforts and give those of us who teach creative ways to help the process.
I will pray. You are so right, we know not sacrifice. My thoughts are still carried away with how to get my woodwork painted and what I am going to wear to the wedding Sat. night. That is far from the heart of your students or the cares of this world (at large.) God forgive me and cause me to truly pray for the message of Jesus' love to go to all who need his love.
